Privacy Policy

How we collect, use, share, and protect your information across the Talkiva app and talkiva.in — written in plain language, because trust should never be hard to read.

Last updated: 12 September 2026 talkiva.in & the Talkiva mobile app

01 Introduction & Last Updated

This Privacy Policy ("Policy") explains how Talkiva ("Talkiva", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards your information when you use our mobile application (the "Talkiva App") and our website talkiva.in (together, the "Services").

Talkiva is a platform that connects users with trained listeners through audio/video calling and 1-on-1 chat, in 35+ Indian languages, supported by a coin-based economy for purchasing session time, paying listeners, and withdrawing listener earnings.

By downloading, installing, registering on, or using the Services, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services. This Policy should be read together with our Terms of Service.

Last updated: 12 September 2026. This Policy is published in compliance with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules framed thereunder, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act"), as applicable in India.

02 Information We Collect

We collect only what we need to run the Services safely. The categories are:

a. Log-in / Registration Data

  • Full name (as entered by you);
  • Mobile phone number (used for OTP verification);
  • Email address;
  • Gender;
  • IP address and approximate device/network information (for security and fraud prevention).

b. Profile Data

  • State of residence;
  • Date of birth (for age verification — you must be 18+ to use the Services);
  • Chosen avatar — Talkiva does not allow photo uploads for profiles; you select from our preset avatar library, so your face is never on the platform;
  • Spoken languages you select (one or more of our 35+ supported Indian languages).

c. Communication Data

  • 1-on-1 chat messages exchanged within the app;
  • Call logs and call metadata — who you called, when, for how long, and the coin cost of each session. We do not record or store the audio or video content of your calls.

Your conversations belong to you. We only process the minimum metadata needed for billing, safety, and dispute resolution.

d. Financial Data

  • Coins purchased (purchase history, transaction IDs, and amounts);
  • Coins earned as a listener;
  • Withdrawal details you provide to receive earnings (e.g., UPI ID or bank account details), processed through our payment partners;
  • We do not store your full card numbers, CVV, or banking passwords on our servers; payment instruments are handled by PCI-DSS compliant payment gateways.

e. Automatically Collected / Technical Data

  • Device identifiers, operating system, and app version;
  • Usage events (screens viewed, features used) to improve the product;
  • Cookies and similar technologies on talkiva.in (see Section 7).

03 How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  1. Provide the Services — create and maintain your account, enable audio/video calls and 1-on-1 chat, and power your profile and avatar;
  2. Match and connect — suggest listeners based on spoken language, availability, and ratings so you can talk in the language you're most comfortable with;
  3. Process the coin economy — record coin purchases, deduct coins for sessions, credit coins to listeners, and process withdrawals of earnings;
  4. Keep the platform safe — verify accounts via OTP, prevent fraud, abuse, harassment, and fake profiles, enforce our Community Guidelines, and respond to reports;
  5. Support you — respond to queries, complaints, and grievances, and process refunds where applicable;
  6. Improve the product — analyse aggregated usage patterns to fix bugs and design better features;
  7. Communicate — service announcements and transactional updates (purchases, withdrawals), and — only with your consent — offers and product news;
  8. Meet legal obligations — comply with applicable law, court orders, and lawful requests from authorities.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your chat messages or call metadata for advertising.

04 Disclosure of Your Information

What other users can see

Other users (including listeners) can only see the public parts of your profile:

  • Your chosen display name/nickname and avatar (never your real photo, since we do not allow photo uploads);
  • The languages you speak and, for listeners, their specialities and ratings;
  • Your online/call availability status.

Your phone number, email, date of birth, state, coin balance, and withdrawal details are never shown to other users.

What we may share with others

  • Service providers — payment gateways, SMS/OTP providers, cloud hosting, and analytics vendors, strictly to operate the Services and under confidentiality obligations;
  • Payment & withdrawal partners — the minimum financial details needed to complete your purchase or payout;
  • Law enforcement and authorities — where required by law, court order, or a lawful request from a government or regulatory authority in India, including to investigate fraud, coercion, threats, or content involving the safety of minors;
  • Safety emergencies — if we have a good-faith belief that disclosure is necessary to prevent serious harm to a user or others;
  • Corporate events — in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, with notice to you and protection no weaker than this Policy.

We may also publish fully anonymised, aggregated statistics (e.g., total minutes listened) that cannot identify you.

05 Data Retention & Security

How long we keep your data

  • Account and profile data — for as long as your account is active, and for up to 90 days after deletion (a grace window to honour cancellations, refunds, and legal obligations), after which it is deleted or irreversibly anonymised;
  • Financial and transaction records — retained as required under applicable tax, accounting, and payment-regulator rules;
  • Call logs and chat metadata — retained while needed for billing integrity, safety investigations, and dispute resolution;
  • Security and fraud data — IP and device signals retained for a limited period for abuse prevention.

How we protect your data

  • Your data is stored securely on our servers, with encryption of data in transit (TLS) and appropriate safeguards for data at rest;
  • Call sessions are routed over encrypted channels; we do not record call audio or video;
  • Access to personal data is restricted to trained personnel on a need-to-know basis;
  • Withdrawal requests require identity verification before payout.

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure (see the Disclaimer in Section 11), but we review and update our safeguards regularly.

06 Your Rights

Subject to applicable law (including the DPDP Act, 2023), you may:

  • Access — request a summary of the personal data we hold about you;
  • Correct — update inaccurate or incomplete details (name, email, state, languages, avatar) anytime from your profile screen or by writing to us;
  • Delete — request deletion of your account and associated personal data. You can delete your account from the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account) or by emailing our Grievance Officer. Some records may be retained as described in Section 5;
  • Withdraw consent — for optional communications (marketing) at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing;
  • Grievance redressal — raise a complaint with our Grievance Officer (Section 10), who will respond within the timelines prescribed by law.

We will verify your identity before acting on any request. Requests are generally actioned within 30 days.

07 Cookie Policy (talkiva.in)

Our website talkiva.in uses cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Essential cookies — keep the site working (security, session integrity, load balancing). These cannot be switched off;
  • Preference cookies — remember choices such as language or previously viewed sections;
  • Analytics cookies — help us understand which pages are most useful, in aggregated form.

The mobile App does not use browser cookies; it uses device identifiers for the limited technical purposes described in Section 2(e).

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may affect parts of talkiva.in. We do not use cookies for cross-site advertising.

08 Third-Party Links & Embeds

The Services contain links to and integrations with third-party services, including:

  • Google Play Store — for downloading and updating the App (governed by Google's own privacy policy);
  • Payment gateways — for coin purchases and withdrawals. Your payment instrument is processed on their PCI-DSS compliant infrastructure under their policies;
  • SMS/OTP and cloud providers — for verification and hosting;
  • Social links — our public social media pages.

These third parties have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of every service you interact with. Where a page or feature embeds third-party content, that content behaves exactly as if you had visited the third-party site directly.

09 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always show the current version.

For material changes, we will notify you through the App (and/or by email) before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Services after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy. If you disagree with a change, you may stop using the Services and request deletion of your account (Section 6).

10 Grievance Officer

Under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the DPDP Act, 2023, we have appointed a Grievance Officer to address your questions and complaints about this Policy or our data practices. We aim to acknowledge every grievance within 48 hours and resolve it within 30 days.

11 Disclaimer

While we implement industry-standard safeguards, no transmission of data over the internet and no electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be absolutely secure. You share information with us at your own risk. Where technically feasible, you should also do your part — keep your OTPs and passwords private, and never share financial credentials with anyone on the platform.
